Chandigarh, December 10

Members of an NGO, Tammana, distributed blankets among the poor persons during a drive carried out on Saturday night. Youths of the organisation went around the tricity at midnight and covered shelterless people with blankets without waking them up.

The silent rally started at 3 am and ended by 7 am. Over 500 shelterless people were found sleeping on sacks, covered with negligible warmth.

Isha Kakaria, founder of the organisation, said there had been an appreciable team effort where collections speak great results. Respective stock centres at Chandigarh, Doraha, Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur were set up to invite collections for old or new blankets, quilts, and shawls from the general public. The drive, which was named as ‘Punya 2017’, was the 91st event of the NGO.
