Chandigarh: The release of a book written by former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh, which was scheduled to be held at Panjab University here on August 16 at 11 am, has been cancelled due to unforeseen reasons, Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover informed. He said the fresh date of the book release function would be decided later. TNS
BJP holds Tiranga yatras
BJP workers held Tiranga yatras in several city areas on Monday. A scooter and car rally started from the Sector 29 community centre and passed through Sectors 29, 30, 31 and the Industrial Area. Councillor Shakti Prasad Devsali led the yatra. Devsali said it was held to instill the sense of nationalism among residents. A large number of party activists on scooters, bikes and cars participated in rally. They raised slogans like "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram". A Tiranga yatra was also held in Sectors 31, 47 and 48, led by councillor Devesh Modgil. The yatras were also held in Ward Nos. 12, 13, 15, 21, 22 and 23. Traffic rules were violated during the yatras as some of the participants drove two-wheelers without helmets. TNS
I-Day function
Balbir Singh Senior, former hockey player, Padma Shri and Khel Ratna awardee will be the chief guest of the Independence Day function at Panjab University on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor Arun K Grover will unfurl the national flag at the Parade Ground (Old Convocation Ground) of the university at 8:02 am. TNS
