Two armed robbers forcibly took away a Swift Dzire car from a 27-year-old youth in Sector 80 today. The victim, Paramjit Singh, son of a former Army man, said the robbers were young and one of them threatened to shoot him and fled with his car. He called the police, who are investigating the case.

Paramjit, a resident of Baasiyan Baidwan village near Chunni on the outskirts of Mohali, was hunting for a job for the past few days. Around 2 pm, he reached his uncle’s house in Sector 80, where he was to have lunch. As he got out of the car, two men on foot asked him the way to Morinda. As Paramjit started to guide them, one of the youths pulled out a gun and asked for the keys of his car. He handed over the keys to them and the duo fled in the car after threatening to shoot him if he tried to follow them.

Paramjit immediately dialled 100, which was busy. Around five minutes later, his call went through. The police reached the spot and Paramjit narrated the entire incident. The police tried to procure CCTV footage to get a clue about the carjackers and till the filing of this report, they were able to lay their hands on footage from one of the houses, but it was of little use as it was not clear.

Paramjit said the snatching was not planned as he was not a daily visitor to the area. “They seemed to be lurking around and grabbed the opportunity seeing me alone,” he said. Paramjit said the youth carrying the gun appeared to be around 22 years of age while his accomplice, who drove away the car, seemed to be barely 18. He said they spoke in Punjabi.

Mohali SSP KS Chahal said an FIR had been registered under Section 382 of the IPC and under the Arms Act.
