Case registered against unknown persons

A case has been registered against unknown persons for creating a fake ID of the Punjab Finance Minister on a social networking site at the Punjab Cyber Crime police station, Phase IV. 

Inspector General (Cyber Crime) SPS Parmar said a case under Section 66 (D) of the Information Technology Act-2000 and Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of the IPC had been registered on the complaint of the minister’s officer on special duty (OSD), Jasvir Dhillon. 

The complainant alleged that somebody had created a fake ID of the minister and was uploading posts maligning his image. The miscreant has asked for monetary help for a cancer patient using the fake ID. He has also given a Bank of India account number,” said IG Parmar. In the complaint, the OSD stated that the minister had two genuine IDs on the social networking site. 

The cyber cell has already started investigating the matter and has sent a team to the bank’s Moga branch to check the transactions.

“We will get the details of the bank account by Monday,” the IG said. 

The cyber crime cell is also trying to get information about the creator of the account from the USA.
