Chandigarh, December 6

The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has sought a reply from Chitkara International School for seeking indemnity bond from parents that the school wouldn’t be responsible for their “child’s safety”.

“We have sought reply from the school within two days,” confirmed Harjinder Kaur, chairperson of the CCPCR.

The CCPCR has acted on the complaint of the Chandigarh Parents’ Association.

“A school cannot demand it at the time of admission or at any stage as a condition that a child will be admitted only upon submission of an indemnity bond. There is no provision of law under which a school can ask the parents to furnish indemnity bonds, which is a practice in financial transactions such as obtaining bank loans, etc. The mandate of this simply cites the desperation on the school’s part to ease the heat they have been facing in regard to the security measures,” said CPA in a complaint to the CCPCR.

“We wonder why the school management is not confident about the security measures and their own administration. Rather they are so sure that some mishappening will take place and the child will get hurt within the school premises in future. Thus, the urgency of a bond is basically to safeguard their own selfish selves and not the children as has been implied by the school authority,” said Nitin Goyal, president, CPA.

There are other bindings in indemnity bond too, according to the CPA.
