Chandigarh, April 16

Owing to weakness, 88-year-old Capt (retd) RN Moudgil rarely travels but on Sunday he was so eager to reach New Delhi that he wanted to drive the car.

For the former district judge, receiving his 24-year-old granddaughter Anjum Moudgil, who won a shooting silver medal in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi was a moment to remember.

Anjum, who reached the Capital along with another young shooting sensation, Manu Bhaker, was received with tears of joy by her family members.

After meeting her family for a few hours, Anjum left to attend the ongoing national camp for the ISSF World Cup to be held in Changwon, South Korea, from April 20. “We went there to meet her as she will be coming to Chandigarh next month. After staying here for three or four days, she will be again going to the USA and thereafter to Munich,” said Sudershan Moudgil, Anjum’s father.

“We asked her to take rest but she wanted to participate in these events. It was an emotional moment to hold her silver medal. Babaji (RN Moudgil) was more excited than us to hold the medal,” added Sudershan. The family also met Manu, the 16-year-old who won the gold in 10m air pistol event.

“We are happy that Anjum’s hard work was appreciated by all. She is more focused now and we are confident that she will win a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She is focused to achieve the highest of honour in the future,” said Sudershan.
