The arrest of two senior officials of the UT Administration in a corruption case has brought about a change for the good, to some extent. A resident was surprised to learn that he had got an NOC after a delay of six months. The man had been making rounds of the Estate Office for getting his work done. The officials’ arrest is the talking point in various departments these days. Residents feel if the CBI and the Vigilance Department keep acting in such a manner, there will be no room for corruption in the Administration.
SSP or milkman?
Every time, the police recover drugs, they make it a point to tell the media the market price of the contraband. But with Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal, the case is different. Recently, when the Mohali Police recovered 1-kg heroin, some curious journos asked the SSP its market value. To which, the official replied: “How would I know that? I don’t sell or buy heroin from the international or domestic market. Ask me the price of milk.”
Minister, not a commoner
Trouble brewed for the Mohali Police when an Assistant Sub-Inspector stopped the Health Minister from using an escalator and directed him to use the staircase instead. The official mistook him for a commoner. The minister was right behind Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh at QuarkCity for the opening of a business centre. Luckily, a local SP-rank officer rushed to spot and escorted the minister to the escalator.
Cop goes mum
Recently, a senior Panchkula Police official was honoured by an association in Haryana. The official was quick to post the cutting of an article covering the ceremony on WhatsApp. But when residents started asking him as to what steps had been taken to check the rising crime in Panchkula, the official went mum. It appeared that the cop did not want the people to steal his thunder.
Chase goes waste
It was a wild goose chase for mediapersons when accused Vikas Barala and his friend were presented before a local court in a stalking case. While the accused were coming in and going out amid tight security, a few reporters kept yelling, “Vikas do you want to say something” .. “Why have you covered your face when Varnika hasn’t?” “Have you done anything wrong?” Vikas chose to remain silent, disappointing the reporters.
