CHB forms committee for need-based changes

CHANDIGARH: The CHB has constituted an eight-member committee to recommend need-based changes that can be allowed in dwelling units.

The CHB has constituted an eight-member committee to recommend need-based changes that can be allowed in dwelling units.

The committee, under the chairmanship of the Secretary, CHB, will submit its report within 21 days. The board has also decided to keep appeals against cancellation of allotment pending till the panel finalises its report on need-based changes.

Prem Kaushik, a member of the board, said a representative from the CHB Residents’ Federation would be a member of the committee.

The other members include the Chief Engineer, UT, the Chief Architect, UT, and a representative of Federation of Sectors Welfare Association of Chandigarh besides CHB officials.

Apart from need-based changes, the committee would also take up the issue of one-time settlement for violations in CHB houses.

Kaushik said the committee would have a discussion with all stakeholders before finalising its report.

Residents of CHB dwelling units have been demanding for years that changes made within the four walls of their houses without compromising the structural safety should be regularised.

Nod for 7-storey B Block

The board has also approved construction of seven-storeyed Green Building (Block B) with two level basements on the CHB office complex in Sector 9. The construction of ‘B’ Block on the office complex will cost around Rs 57.94 crore.

492 flats to come up in Sector 53

  • The CHB has approved a new housing scheme under which 492 flats will be constructed in Sector 53. These include 192 three-bedroom flats, 100 two-bedroom flats, 120 one-bedroom flats and 80 EWS flats.
  • The flats shall have the provisions of lifts, solar photovoltaic power generation, firefighting system, power generator sets, CCTV surveillance and mechanical ventilation system for basements for parking.
  • CHB Chairman Ajoy Kumar Sinha said the scheme would be launched soon after the board got the clearances. The board has already earmarked land in Sector 53, approximately 8 acre, where the flats will be constructed.
