Chirag, Nidhi clinch carrom titles

CHANDIGARH: Chirag and Nidhi Gupta won the boys’ and girls’ junior titles, respectively, in the ongoing 18th Raj Kumar Babuta Memorial Prize Money Carrom Ranking Tournament at St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45, here today.

Chirag and Nidhi Gupta won the boys’ and girls’ junior titles, respectively, in the ongoing 18th Raj Kumar Babuta Memorial Prize Money Carrom Ranking Tournament at St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45, here today. 

In the final, Chirag rallied to beat Gopal Kakkar 10-11 16-5 9-7, while Nidhi overcame Sanya Chadha 16-3 17-21 21-1. 

Earlier, in the semifinals, Chirag had blanked Mayank Gupta 21-11 21-4. Kakkar edged out Aryan Dhaka 17-15 21-0 to seal a spot in the final.

In the junior girls’ semifinals, Nidhi defeated Maryam Khan 9-6 21-7, while Sanya registered an 18-6 12-6 win over Komal Gupta. 

In the boys’ sub-junior category, Mayank Gupta humbled Gopal Kakkar 8-7 17-0 to claim the title. 

In semifinals, Kakkar had beat Yash Gupta 10-0 16-0, while Mayank came back from a frame down to beat Sahil Thakur 7-15 13-3 11-6.  

Sangini Mamgain, meanwhile, won the girls’ sub-junior title after beating Vaidhavi Mamgain 9-0 6-7 10-0. 

In the semifinals, Vaidhavi Mamgain overwhelmed Saniya 9-0 6-7 10-0, while Sangini had outplayed Ayesha 7-1 4-0.

Ayesha, however, won the girls’ cadet title after defeating Vaidhavi Mamgain 11-2 5-3. 

The boys’ cadet title went to Shahzar after he defeated Harmannat 11-0 17-0 in the final.
