City gymnast Pankhuri Rathore won the bronze medal in the artistic individual floor event at 55th Senior Nationals held in Mohali.

Earlier, Rathore won the bronze medal in the All-India Inter-University Championship at Kurukshetra for Punjabi University, Patiala.

In 2015, she won the bronze medal in the National Games in Kerala.

Pankhuri, a Mohindra College student, is also a gold medallist in the All-India Inter-University Championship in 2016.

Rathore earned the maximum number of points for the Punjab team and helped the team win the silver medal in the women’s artistic gymnastics in the games. Rohika, Sangeeta, Rubi Yadav, Pooja, Geetanjali and Naginder were other members of the team.

Pankhuri is now preparing for the senior khelo India.

“I am very happy and thankful to my coach Kalpana. The experience at the nationals was good and it will help the gymnasts in future.”

In the women’s artistic category, Pankhuri Rathore, with a comprehensive performance in all four segments, helped Punjab win the team silver medal. Out of the team total of 199.50 points, she contributed the biggest share. West Bengal finished on the top, while Rajasthan won the bronze medal.

In the men’s artistic category, too, Punjab won the silver medal. Vikram, Paramjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Arun Kumar, Vicky, Gurjinder Singh and Arun Sharma showed their skills and strength in all six disciplines to take their team to the top.

Pankhuri Rathore is getting training under the guidance of Kalpana Debnath at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
