City police claim to solve six cases with arrest of four

CHANDIGARH: The Crime Branch of the Chandigarh Police arrested a gang of four persons who were allegedly involved in robbery, snatching, vehicle lifting and drug peddling cases.

The Crime Branch of the Chandigarh Police arrested a gang of four persons who were allegedly involved in robbery, snatching, vehicle lifting and drug peddling cases. The accused have been identified as Vikram, alias Vicky (23), and Devinder Singh (19) of Mohali, along with Abhishek Chaudhary, alias Avi, alias Badri (20), and Arun Kumar (24) of Chandigarh. The police have claimed to have solved six cases with these arrests.

On April 17, the police team acting on a tip-off, apprehended Vikram and Devinder while they were coming from the Dhanas lake side on a motorcycle. During search of both accused, one mobile phone was recovered from their possession. The phone was found to be a snatched one and a case in this regard was registered in Sarangpur. Further, during interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that they are also involved in another case of vehicle theft involving an Activa scooter.

On Friday, Abhishek was arrested at a checkpoint near the Sector 14/25 road to Dhanas. During the search, a mobile phone and a knife was recovered from his possession. The phone was found robbed in a case registered in Sarangpur. Further, during the course of investigation, two cases, one of snatching of a mobile phone and another of vehicle theft of a Hero Splendor motorcycle, were also worked out by recovering the stolen property from the possession of Abhishek.

In an another incident, on April 18, while a team was on a patrolling duty in the market of Sector 44-D, Arun was apprehended and was in possession of 21 gm of heroin without any license or permit. A case under Section 21 of the NDPS act was registered against him. Vikram and Arun were produced in a court and sent to two-day police remand.
