CHANDIGARH:Hockey Chandigarh beat Sports Authority of India (SAI) 4-0 to win the Hockey India seventh Sub-junior Men’s National Hockey Championship.

Chandigarh, May 21

Hockey Chandigarh beat Sports Authority of India (SAI) 4-0 to win the Hockey India seventh Sub-junior Men’s National Hockey Championship. 

The Chandigarh boys entered the match in high spirits and dominated the match right from the start but SAI defended firmly. 

After playing a goalless first half, Chandigarh bounced back strongly in the second half with Sanjay successfully converting a penalty corner to give the team 1-0 lead.  

Amandeep scored the second goal in the 47th minute to make it 2-0. Sanjay scored his second and team’s third goal in the 65th minute before Harpreet Singh wrapped up the victory with a goal in the 69th minute. The  winning team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Sanjay was adjudged  Man of the Match. 

Madhya Pradesh finish third, beat Odisha   

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy secured the third place after beating Hockey Odisha 3-2. Haider Ali gave MP the lead in the eighth minute. Sunit Lakra equalised for Hockey Odisha in the 25th minute but it did not last long. 

Two minutes later, Shailendra Singh restored Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy’s lead 2-1. Three minutes before halftime, he added another goal to his team’s tally. MP went into half time leading 3-1. 

Hockey Odisha pulled one back within two minutes of the restart with the help of Sushant Toppo but Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy were resolute in their defence to win the third-place match in the sub-junior championship conculded today.
