The appeal of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to all well-off farmers in the state to give up their power subsidy willingly has started pouring in.

Sukhbir Singh Thind, Principal of Government Mohindra College, Patiala, has voluntarily given up the subsidy of a 20 HP power connection operational in his farms here at Bhanri village. Writing a letter in the name of sub-divisional officer of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Thind has agreed to pay the bill of the connection as per the norms of the Power Department.

Opposing to his previous term of 2002-2007, this time Capt Amarinder had decided to continue with free power to farmers. The free power has been supplied to all farms in the state, irrespective of farmers’ income. However, agricultural experts differ with the views of the state government to give up the subsidy.
