Chandigarh, October 15
The Chandigarh District Council of Punjan and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) took a note of a letter sent by a liaison officer in the office of the Director Higher Education (DHE), Chandigarh Administration, to principals of two local colleges in Sector 26 regarding biometric attendance.
As of now, only government college teachers have to mark their attendance through biometric system.
Condemning the act, Prof Himanshu Rampal, secretary of the district council, said the issue was already pending, subject to negotiations between the DHE and the district council. The district council, under the guidance of the PCCTU executive, had opposed the move in its meeting held in May this year and demanded complete parity with the government counterparts and provision of infrastructure as per the UGC guidelines, which the private managements were unable to afford. “Under the circumstances, this letter is totally unwarranted and uncalled for. The government college teachers get more benefits that private teachers do not get,” he said. —TNS
