Commission sensitises students to sexual abuse

CHANDIGARH:In order to mitigate the risk of sexual exploitation in children, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in collaboration with Department of Education, Chandigarh, Women and Child Helpline (181) and Police Department has started the 'Shout and Stop' awareness session in schools of Chandigarh.

In order to mitigate the risk of sexual exploitation in children, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in collaboration with Department of Education, Chandigarh, Women and Child Helpline (181) and Police Department has started the 'Shout and Stop' awareness session in schools of Chandigarh. The Commission has covered 320 students in different schools.

On Tuesday, representatives of the CCPCR, Child Helpline and the police conducted the training for Class VI of St John's School, Sector 26. The students were given training on good touch and bad touch, types and indicators of abuse and mechanisms to safeguard themselves. Over 120 students attended the programme.

On Wednesday, training was imparted to students of Class IX and X of Government Senior Secondary School in Maloya. The students were made aware about the POCSO Act and mechanism to safeguard themselves and role of each department. Recently, a survey conducted by humanitarian-aid organisation World Vision India with a sample of 45,844 respondents had revealed that one in every five children do not feel safe because of the fear of being sexually abused.
