A local court today further extended the police remand of con man Parminder Singh Toor, co-accused in the fraud and cheating case, by one day.

The police sought the extension of the remand to further interrogate about the two blank cheques which the accused took from one of the complainants to sort out the land dispute, said sources. Parminder Singh Toor will remain in the police remand till June 23.

Earlier, the police produced the accused before the Court of Judicial Magistrate (Senior Division) Balwinder Kaur Dhaliwal after their earlier police remand came to an end today.

The counsel of the accused, Gurjeet Singh Kaura, reportedly raised suspicion on the police story and requested the Judicial Magistrate to direct the police to produce the documents and material in the court, based on which an FIR was registered against Parminder Singh Toor for allegedly taking Rs 31.5 lakh from the complainant, Balwant Singh, a resident of Sangrur, to open a gas agency in Zirakpur.

Observing that the police were far away from proving the charges, the defence counsel of the accused pointed out the inability of the police in getting substantial evidence seeking remand of the con man.

Gurjeet Singh Kaura, defence counsel of Parminder Singh Toor, said: “The prosecutor availed an ample opportunity to interrogate and collect the material, but it is not in a position to point out actually who were cheated by the accused. The prosecution has failed to bring sufficient cogent, convincing and clinching evidence to prove the offences under Section 420 registered against the accused”.

While bail applications of four out of the six accused were accepted by the court today, they managed to get out of the jail.

The Court of Judicial Magistrate (Senior Division) Balwinder Kaur Dhaliwal granted bail to Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Moga, Aadsach Singh, a resident of Fazilka, Balwinder Singh and driver Bunty. The court had yesterday rejected the anticipatory bail of Varinder Singh and Parminder Singh’s case was still pending, said their defence counsel.

Police officials said they were hopeful of getting some more important information while questioning with con man after getting his remand extended for one day.
