Congress workers, led by former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal and party councillors, sat on a strike outside of the MC building in protest against the recent hike in parking rates.

The protesters reached the place before the office had opened or other councillors reached there for the House meeting convened to discuss the issue. Congress workers raised slogans against the BJP and sought a rollback of the hike.

Bansal said, “The BJP has nothing to do with the problems of the residents of the city. In the name of smart parking, the people are being cheated. Residents of the City Beautiful are upset and BJP councillors sitting in the MC House are least concerned about their problems. The Congress is not going to give up on this issue.”

“People have been burdened like never before. The new parking rates must be rolled back. Out agitation will not end till the parking fee hike is withdrawn,” added Congress leader HS Lucky.

Former mayor Subhash Chawla, councillors Gurbax Rawat, Ravinder Kaur Gujral and Sheela Devi, and Congress leaders, including Pawan Sharma, Gurpreet Gabi, Anita Sharma, Bhupinder Budhadi, SS Tiwari, Ajay Joshi, Gurpreet Happy, Davinder Singh Marwaha, Bhuwan Luthra, Yadavwinder Mehta and Rajeev Moudgil were among those who took part in the protest.
