A Head Constable (HC) of the UT police was today suspended for dereliction of duty. The HC, identified as Rajiv Kumar posted with Tango 1 Reserve, has been suspended on the basis of a report filed by Ram Gopal, DSP (Central).
Sources said a night naka was set up in Sector 35 and all vehicles crossing the naka were being checked. The reserve force, Tango Reserve 1, was also deployed there.
At around 1 am, the cops signalled a speeding car to stop. But the motorist sped through the naka.
The DSP (Central), who was on night checking duty, was monitoring the naka.
Sources said Ashok Kumar, driver of the DSP (Central), alighted from the official car and asked the HC why he did not stop the speeding car. The HC replied that the car was fast and he could have been run over if he had tried to stop it. Ashok conveyed the constable's reply to the DSP.
A few hours later, the HC was put under suspension and an inquiry initiated against him.
Ram Gopal said he had sent a report to senior officers regarding misconduct by the HC. “Misconduct on duty was found on his part, following which I sent a report to senior officers,” the DSP said.
Sources said the suspension orders stated that the HC misbehaved with senior officers and Tango In-charge. However, the DSP denied it.
The SSP, Eish Singhal, confirmed the HC had been put under suspension and an inquiry initiated against him.
