Cops to keep hawk’s eye during second ODI in Mohali

MOHALI:In wake of upcoming One Day International cricket match at Punjab Cricket Stadium (PCA) on Wednesday, the Mohali Police have put high security arrangements in and around the stadium at Phase 9, here.

In wake of upcoming One Day International cricket match at Punjab Cricket Stadium (PCA) on Wednesday, the Mohali Police have put high security arrangements in and around the stadium at Phase 9, here. 

According to Mohali Superintendent of Police Gursewak Singh, around 1000 policemen would keep a close watch on all activities in and around the stadium to avoid any untoward incident. 

The local police authorities have also sought extra force from Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana etc for the D-day. 

"The security cover would be multi-tier. The stadium and its surrounding area have been divided into different zones, which would be supervised by senior ranked officials including superintendents of police", said the SP adding that a high-level meeting on the issue was also held at the venue today. 

On the D-day, the police would also station five Anti-Riot Teams, six Quick Reaction Teams, 20 mounted police, commandos, woman police and traffic staff near the venue.  

Under the route plan, all roads around the stadium, including Phase 8-9 road from the Fortis light point, road dividing Phase 9 and 10 from Sector 49-50 chowk, Chandigarh, Phase 10 road leading to the stadium, would remain close for traffic. "Only vehicles, having the parking passes would be allowed to enter on the roads, on which traffic would be restricted", said the police. —TNS
