Court recommends action against CM’s flying squad

The Panchkula court has recommended appropriate action against the policemen posted in the CM’s flying squad for failing to file a chargesheet within 60 days in a case of corruption in the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).

In the order, which was passed on January 23, the copy of which was now made available, the Additional Sessions Judge, Rajan Walia, ordered, “Since in the present case, the final police report has not been submitted within the statutory period, the matter be brought to the knowledge of the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police by sending a copy of this order for taking appropriate and necessary action against the defaulter.”

The court on January 23 had granted bail to Vijay Sangha, an assistant posted with the Panchkula estate office wing of Haryana urban Development Authority, Harneet Singh of the IT department, and local property dealer Rakesh Kumar Dhanda.

In November last year, the Chief Minister’s flying squad had busted a nexus between the middlemen, property dealers and officials of the Haryana Urban Development Authority with the arrest of five persons. Apart from the three accused, the flying squad had arrested Vikas Saini (clerk) and Gyan, owner of a document centre.

On the complaint of DSP Purnima Singh, a first information report (FIR) was registered at the Sector 5 police station on November 23 under Sections 120B, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The case 

The prosecution case was that a complaint was lodged by DSP Purnima Singh at the Sector 5 police station, alleging two mobile numbers were being used for corruption by luring people for the completion of their works in government departments and the issuance of NOC certificates, upon which both mobile numbers were intercepted. Later, it has come to the knowledge that these numbers belonged to HUDA officials, who were promising people to get their work done after taking more money in addition to the the government fee.
