Ludhiana, April 28

The bodies of four missing residents of Chandigarh, Pawan Sharma, Jayant Rishi, Ram Chaudhary and Prabhjot Singh, were found buried in silt in Sidhwan Canal by chance. For nearly four months, the disappearance of the Chandigarh residents had remained a mystery, and it would have remained so had the anchor of a crane not stuck in the car.

Goggi Jargarri, a crane operator, said he was working at a bridge site yesterday. “We were dragging scaffolding to cover the remaining part of the bridge. The anchor of the crane fell in the canal accidentally. When I started rolling the anchor, it got stuck. When I tried hard, the anchor came out with the car hanging from it,” said Goggi.

Khanna SSP Satinder Singh was informed about the incident. Officials from the police and the administration visited the spot this morning. Goggi showed them the spot where he found the car.  The divers entered water and located the car.

The divers told the police that the car was badly damaged. The vehicle was was fished out with the crane.

The bodies were badly mutilated. First, the bodies on the rear seat were removed from the car. The front portion of the car was dismantled with a cutter to retrieve the other two bodies. The deceased were identified from the clothes they were wearing the day they left for Ludhiana.  The smell emanating from bodies was so awful that the divers were seen emptying bottles of deodorants on them. — TNS
