Chandigarh, October 21

Following the bird flu scare in Delhi, five birds were spotted dead by officials of the UT Administration in Sector 4 yesterday.

Taking no chances, the UT Forest and Wildlife Department has sent all dead birds to a lab in Jalandhar for the bird flu test.

The dead birds were spotted behind Rock Garden near a water tank.

The department has already issued directions to its field staff to inform it in case they spot any dead bird. The UT Animal Husbandry Department has also stepped up surveillance in the city.

In 2014, several geese were culled and Sukhna Lake was cordoned off following a bird flu scare. The killings were carried out as a precautionary measure to prevent the outbreak of bird flu in the city and the adjoining areas.
