Mankirat and Dhairya Chadha brushed aside Rishi Dahiya and Rahul Kumar in straight sets to win the boys’ U-16 doubles title on the penultimate day of the National Ranking Championship at the Roots Tennis Academy in Zirakpur here today. The duo won 6-2 6-2.
In the boys’ U-14 semifinals, top seed Debasis Sahoo drubbed third seed Aryan Arora 6-3 6-3, while fifth seed Madhav Sharma stunned second seed Rakshit Dhankar in a marathon three-setter. Sharma lost the first set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-4 7-6(4) to move into the final.
Samarbir Singh Sidhu, meanwhile, registered 6-1 7-6(3) win over Shubh Negi to advance to the boys’ U-16 final where he will meet Parth Goel, who dismissed Navya Verma 6-0 6-1.
In the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals, Jyotsana Yadav humbled Gauri Arora 6-0 6-3, while Matreyi Phogat overpowered Khushi Dewan 6-4 6-1.
Harleen Kaur edged past Jeshna 6-3 6-1. Catherine ensured a place in the semifinals with a 6-1 6-3 win over Meher Kaur.Later in one of the semifinals, Jyotsana overcame Matreyi 6-1 4-6 6-2.
