Anil Chauhan (53), a boxing coach with the Haryana Sports Department, was the only hope for his family. He has left behind three young daughters, an ailing mother who is 85-year-old and a brother who is unemployed.

Chauhan died of kidney ailment at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, on January 22.

The family of the deceased alleged that he kept writhing in pain but none of the doctors attended to him. "He prepared players who won medals for the country. Despite a paralytic attack in 2006, he continued to render his services. Even paramedical staff kept asking doctors to see him but in vain. We had to beg before doctors to see him," said Neelam Chauhan (50), sister of Anil Chauhan. Neelam now has to support the entire family.

She added, "He was admitted on January 21. The doctors kept on shifting responsibility but no one attended."

Neelam Chauhan is working as an assistant at the office of Town and Country Planning, Panchkula.

"I have few years left in service. One daughter is 25-year-old, another daughter is 24-year-old while the youngest one is 14-year-old. Who will support them? Even my brother's office staff is of no help. His Ayurvedic medical bills were not cleared," she said.

Dr Ravi Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, said, "We have forwarded the complaint of the family to a fact-finding committee. The family members will be called during the inquiry. The outcome is pending."

Chauhan had been working as a boxing coach with the Haryana Sports Department since 1989. He had been training Army personnel from 2002-2015 at Hisar in Haryana and Suratgarh in Rajasthan. In all these years, they had won trophies in their in-house competitions, said his daughter Ravinder Kaur.

"In 2002, during an Under-19 boxing tournament at Frankfurt, Germany, boys from Haryana had won five medals: one gold, one silver and three bronze. Most of his students are now in government jobs based on their sports performance," said Kaur.
