Domestic help hangs self to death in Mataur

Mohali, April 16

A 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday at her residence in Mataur. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Mamta, a domestic help.

The police said as per preliminary investigation, it seemed that the woman was under duress due to some debt.

The investigating officer (IO), ASI Jaspal Singh said no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

The police said the victim was a native of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and her family had been informed.

“We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC,” the investigating officersaid.

The victim is survived by her husband and two daughters, aged 3 and 5.
