CHANDIGARH: Drunken driving claimed the life of a 40-year-old scooterist while two others, who were riding pillion without helmets, were injured after the scooter skidded and hit an electricity pole near the waterworks at Maloya this evening.

Drunken driving claimed the life of a 40-year-old scooterist while two others, who were riding pillion without helmets, were injured after the scooter skidded and hit an electricity pole near the waterworks at Maloya this evening. All three were in an inebriated condition when the accident took place.

Sources said the deceased, Vinod, a resident of Ludhiana, had come to meet Radhey Shyam and Kamlesh.

All three took liquor at Maloya after which they decided to drop Vinod at Phase VI, Mohali, from where he was supposed to catch a bus for Ludhiana. The mishap occurred on the way. — TNS
