DSP office staffer booked for illegally obtaining call details

KHARAR: The police have registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Information Technology Act against unknown staffer at the office of DSP in Kharar, who had obtained call details of a mobile number in connection with a case registered here in 2014.

The police have registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Information Technology Act against unknown staffer at the office of DSP in Kharar, who had obtained call details of a mobile number in connection with a case registered here in 2014.

A complaint regarding this was made by the Director Bureau of Investigation, Chandigarh, to the police.

According to the FIR, call details of a mobile number were obtained from service provider by the office of the SSP, Mohali, on a request made by the office of DSP, Kharar, in connection with an FIR of 2014 under Sections 382 and 34 of the IPC registered at the Kharar police station.

In this regard ASI Deep Singh recorded the statement that these call details were not required during the investigation of the said FIR.

According to the FIR, it was not apparent whether the concerned DSP or other officers had misused the said public office.

“However, the public office of DSP, Kharar, had been misused/abused to obtain the call records,” the complaint read. The police have started investigations. — OC
