Chandigarh, April 17
An entrancing classical vocal spell in the masculine yet melodious voice of academician and avid classical vocalist Prof Dr Alankar Singh enraptured the city art lovers on the second day of the ‘Jhankar’ music festival, organised by the Chandiagrh Sangeet Natak Akademi, at the Tagore theatre here on Tuesday.
Trained in Hindustani classical music and Gurmat Sangeet by music stalwarts Pandit Ganesh Parshad and Prof Tara Singh, the Patiala-based vocal maestro commenced his recital with the exposition of raga Puriya Kalyan through a symbolic alaap and slow paced composition ‘ Kaise Samjhaun’ besides a medium and fast bandishes ‘Rasia bulave’ and ‘Toh pe vaar doongi’. — OC
