Experts from IIT visit PU’s fire-affected block

CHANDIGARH: A team of experts from IIT-Roorkee visited Panjab University’s fire affected administrative block today.

Chandigarh, May 19

A team of experts from IIT-Roorkee visited Panjab University’s fire affected administrative block today. The evaluation was conducted by Prof Umesh Sharma, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT, Roorkee, along with other officials to understand the condition of the building. According to him, the portions of the fire-affected building are repairable.

The team took samples from the debris for subsequent testing in the laboratory of IIT-Roorkee. The team shall then make a scheme for repair and retrofitting of the area. The team will later send a final report giving a clear opinion about the quantum of fire induced damage and recommendation for rehabilitation. The debris was not removed in order to collect samples for investigations as asked by the team. RK Rai, Executive Engineer, and Harpreet Singh, Architect from PU, are assisting the team.
