Chandigarh, October 18

In all, 1,988 motorists were challaned for wrong parking in the city this festive season.

These challans were issued from October 1 to October 17. This includes 609 challans through clamping the wheels of wrongly-parked vehicles and 367 challans by towing the vehicles.

Police officials said a special drive had been initiated to curb the menace of wrong parking during the festive season. During this special drive, affixing of wheel clamps on wrongly parking vehicles, towing of vehicles using hydraulic recovery vans and challaning of such vehicles was intensified.

“The number of vehicles already clamped this month is almost the same number of vehicles clamped in August and September i.e. 606 and 647, respectively,” said a police official.

A police official said on Dhanteras, 312 challans for wrong parking were issued out of which 74 were of wheel clamps and 74 by towing the vehicles.

He said people should opt for car pool while visiting various markets during this festive season. “People should park their vehicles only in the designated parking lots,” said a police official.

The police said a challaning drive will continue in the coming days.
