Fire breaks out at power grid

Power supply to Dera Bassi and nearby areas was adversely affected after a fire broke out at one of the power panels of the Saidpura power grid here this evening. However, no loss was reported in the incident.

Though the exact cause of the fire was not ascertained, it is believed that it could have occurred due to a short-circuit. The entire area plunged into darkness after the fire broke out and the power supply in the town was cut off to protect the grid adjoining a storehouse. However, power supply at various places was partially restored late in the evening.

According to sources, the fire was suspected to have started at one of the power panels around 3.45 pm and a few cables were damaged in the mishap.  — OC
