Mohali: The inaugural Air India flight from Chandigarh to Kullu was delayed by 10 minutes due to a technical problem. A senior Air India official said the flight, which was supposed to depart at 9:50 am, departed 10 minutes late. “There was a minor delay due to the air traffic control clearance.” The official said 12 passengers boarded the flight from Chandigarh to the popular tourist destination, adding that the demand was low due the Diwali festival. The aircraft (ATR 72) has a maximum seating capacity of 55 passengers. TNS

Accused’s remand extended

Chandigarh:  The CBI court on Friday extended the remand of the four accused in the Rs 1.5 lakh graft case by a day. The CBI told the court that it wanted to look into their call records and some recordings, which were obtained via surveillance of their phones. Those arrested are Swaraj Kandoi, director of a Gurugram-based company, who gave the money; Sanjay Pandey, Assistant Hydrologist, Central Ground Water Board, to whom the money was to be delivered; Chander Parkash Midda, technician from the Institute of Microbial Technology, alleged middleman; and  UP resident Dinesh Kumar, who had brought the money. Two held with drugs 

Kharar: A Chandigarh woman and her Mohali-based accomplice were held by the Kharar CIA staff with 250 gm of heroin and 10 gm of party drug Ice. Both are accused in several drug peddling cases and were presently out on bail. They used to bring narcotics from Delhi and supply to gullible consumers at exorbitant prices. CIA staff in-charge Inspector Tarlochan Singh said their car was stopped near KFC on the Kharar-Mohali highway.OC

Two bootleggers arrested

Lalru: The police arrested two bootleggers with 240 bottles of country-made liquor on Thursday night. The accused have been identified as Sunny Saini and Rahul Sharma, both residents of Pinjore. The police had laid a naka at Bohra Kehra near Handesera and signalled their car to stop. During checking, the police recovered liquor. The court sent them to one-day police remand on Friday. OC
