Chandigarh, June 25

The Chandigarh Furniture Association has decided to hold a complete bandh on June 26 and a three-day dharna to show solidarity with the All-India Furniture Association, which has given a call for a nationwide strike for three days from June 26 in protest against the exorbitant GST (28 per cent) on furniture items. Sunil Bansal, general secretary of the  association, said the  rate was unjustified as these items fell in the category of necessity, not luxury.

This would hit the trade adversely, he said. He said a memorandum  seeking a reduction in the rate from the present 28  per cent  to 12   per cent would be  given to the Administration.
