Chandigarh, June 14

The chairman of Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust, Banur, has been booked for cheating the employees of Gian Sagar Dental College.

The accused, Nitender Singh, had issued cheques to the employees even as he was not the authorised signatory.

In his complaint to the UT police, Raman Gambhir stated that Nitender Singh had issued around 300 cheques to teaching and non-teaching staff of medical, dental and physiotherapy departments of the institute. He alleged that Nitender Singh had himself signed the cheques in the presence of the staff.

However, the cheques returned dishonoured when presented in bank with the remarks ‘insufficient funds and drawer’s signature differs’. On checking with the bank, it was found that Nitender Singh was not the authorised signatory of the account.

The complainant’s counsel Pardhuman Garg said 40 employees of the institute had met the DGP, UT, last year with their complaint. After taking a legal opinion, a cheating case has now been registered at the Sector 17 police station.

A local court has already issued non-bailable warrants against Nitender Singh in multiple cheque-bounce cases.

As many as 40 complaints were filed against the trust as well as its chairman after the salary cheques issued to doctors and teachers were dishonoured.

The next hearing in the case is September 10.
