Officers accompanying Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore gave a tough time to the officers at the inauguration function of the cycle track on Sunday morning. As per the scheduled programme, the Governor was to inaugurate newly constructed cycle track and flag off the group of cyclists. But after reaching the venue, the Governor surprised everyone when he asked for a bicycle. He himself led the cyclists, leaving officers behind for over a km journey. The officers and the staff have a tough time to follow him. While some of his security persons followed him by foot running behind, the officers used their vehicles to follow their boss. This is not the first time when the Governor stumped everyone. He had earlier drove a bullet motorcycle when he had flagged off a group of the youth going for the adventure journey. Recently, on the International Day of Yoga, Badnore performed yoga asanas with Union Health Minister JP Nadda.

Politics over victims

While the GMADA authorities are hell bent on taking back the houses, which are said to be under possession of unauthorised persons at Danga Peerit Colony in Mohali, local leaders of all major parties have stood up in favour of the occupiers for obvious reasons. Local Akali leader Paramjit Singh Kahlon claimed that the action of GMADA officials had taken place at the behest of the Congress government. On the other hand, Mohali Congress Senior Deputy Mayor Rishabh Jain, who was also rounded up for staging a protest in favour of the occupiers, claimed that the Akali government did nothing for these riot victims during its 10-year regime. “Due to their (Akalis) disinterest, the victims are on the verge of eviction from their houses. Our support is with the victims,” said Jain. AAP MLA from Kharar Kanwar Sandhu also extended his party’s support to the occupiers.

Auto mode!

In the recent Panchkula MC House meeting, councillor Ravi Kant Swami, who is supporting the Mayor, played a mobile call recording. In the recording, an MC official was overheard informing Swami about the cancellation of the MC House meeting. A curious Congress councillor asked Swami that how he recorded the call. His answer was, “it is automatic in his mobile and all call gets recorded”.

Mayor’s music love

Chandigarh Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal is fond of music. So is the craze that she has of late found a caller tune in which her name Asha is there. On her phone, she has got caller tune song, “Dil hai chota sa, choti si asha…” Earlier, in a get-together with the local councillors, officials and mediapersons, she had sung a number of folk and Hindi songs to entertain the fellow women councillors and family, friends.

Drugs on PU campus?

A notice against usage of drugs has been put up outside the three-year Law Department at Panjab University. Duly signed by the chairperson of the department, the notice was put up early this month. It says that action will be taken against anyone using drugs or other such substances inside the department, including classes and washrooms. The notice raises serious concerns about prevalence on drugs on campus.
