I want to draw the attention of the authorities concerned towards the problem faced by people on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway.

I want to draw the attention of the authorities concerned towards the problem faced by people on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway. I would like to inform that there is no space to park cars or to walk in front of shops and showrooms on both sides on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway. Several commuters or shop owners park their cars on side lane or on the highway which makes impossible for people to drive on the side lane and it also creates a traffic jam on the highway. There is no space for commuters to walk or to even stand. Now, even shop owners have started putting their items on the road and many illegal constructions have come up on the side lane. I request the authorities concerned look into the matter as soon as possible as there is a risk to life every day as commuters have to walk on the highway. Even if they walk on side lane, there is a risk of getting hit by vehicles. People who are waiting for the transportation have to stand on the highway every day. I suggest that vehicles should be parked in front of shops or showrooms instead of the side lane or the highway. There should be enough space to park the cars. There should also be enough space for everyone to walk safely on the side lane. The PWD and the Municipality Corporation have failed to provide the parking space or space for commuters to walk safely. This is a matter of serious concern. —Harpreet Singh

Garbage bins lying useless

It is sad to point out that for over 35 years now, household garbage is still being disposed of by the residents by hiring private parties and paying for it when it is the duty of the Municipal Corporation to do so. Just a couple of months ago, the MC had distributed two bins for the same, which are lying useless. No civic body staff is seen collecting household garbage. Till when will we have to bear the expenses for the same from our own pockets? —RK Kapoor, Chandigarh

Hawkers eat up parking space

Hawkers can be seen everywhere in the parking area of Rose Garden. Because of this, visitors find it difficult to park their vehicles. Being a tourist spot, this place should be well-managed and organised. PCRs need to be stationed here regularly. Installation of CCTVs and regular patrolling are highly recommended. This will not only make parking convenient, but also leave a good impression on the tourists. —Sneha Singh, Chandigarh
