A vacation Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education on a petition filed by a Class X student, who had claimed that her attempts to apply for the verification of marks within the deadline were unsuccessful as the website was unresponsive.

Taking up the petition filed by Jasmine Sikka through counsel VK Sachdeva, Justice Sudhir Mittal fixed June 20 as the next date of hearing. Appearing before the Bench, Sachdeva contended the petitioner was unable to apply till June 5, the last date prescribed. Resultantly, she could not get a photocopy of her answer books and was unable to apply for the revaluation. He said the policy made it clear that students, who had gone through the steps of verification and obtaining photocopy, could apply for the revaluation.

Another vacation Bench of the High Court has already directed the Central Board of Secondary Education to declare the revaluation result of Class XII English exam by June 29.

The direction by Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan came on a petition filed against the CBSE by Saloni Bhugra and other students through counsel Baltej Singh Sidhu.

Laying down the schedule, the Bench asked the students to apply for revaluation by June 21 and the declaration of result by June 29 for enabling the students to appear for the Delhi University counselling the next day.

Appearing before the Bench, Sidhu had contended that the petitioners were bright students and had secured good marks in Class X. However, the marks now scored in Class XII examination were on the lower side in English. Representation dated May 28 had already been filed in the matter.

The Bench, during the course of hearing, was told that the CBSE had issued a notification asking the students to first apply for re-totalling, followed by request for photocopy and then seek revaluation in case the grievance persisted. The Bench was told that steps were required to be followed in the order prescribed, which would postpone the declaration to July end, though the students were to appear for counselling. The Bench would now take up the case on July 2.
