Members of the Unemployed Multipurpose Health Workers Union today held a protest march against the state government.

They started from Barandari Gardens and were heading towards the house of Health Minister Brahm Mohindra but were halted by the police near Sheran Walan Gate.

The members of the union claimed that they have decided to intensify the protest against the Congress-led state government against its alleged failure in the handling of the writ petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC).

The workers claimed that the recruitment process has been transparently conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Science, Faridkot, but someone alleging anomalies in the merit list filed a petition in the HC due to which their joining process has came to a standstill.

They also appealed to the government to file an affidavit of complying with the court judgment on the behalf of the government which could permit their joining.

Notably, after shortlisting the candidates, the Health Department has also given the appointment letters to as many as 919 candidates and formalities pertaining to medical has also been finished. But then, the HC stayed the recruitment just before the joining of the selected candidates.

The union members alleged that they held meetings with most of the administrative officials of the Health Department along with Health Minister but nobody took the matter sincerely and it forced them to intensify the stir.
