Chandigarh, May 21

Himal Gusain won the third Pavna All India Fide Rated Chess Tournament at Aligarh today. The second seed scored 8.5 points out of the nine games to win the title. 

International Master Himanshu Sharma of Haryana was the top seed in this championship. The second position was bagged by Gajendra Singh of UP with 7.5 points and the third position was secured by the top seed Himashu Sharma also with 7.5 points. A total of 181 players participated in the tournament. 

Gusain bagged the cash prize of Rs 50,000. He won eight games, played one draw, against the top seed Himanshu to win the title. He also increased seven rating points and now has 2461 rating. In the last round, he outplayed Sumit Grover of Jammu and Kashmir to emerge champion. Gusain recently finished second in the International FIDE meet.
