Chamkaur Sahib: A 24-year-old resident of nearby Shatabgarh village was killed and another sustained serious injuries when an unidentified vehicle hit them on Nilon road here on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Vicky and the injured Baljit Singh of Behlolpur village. The police said the victims were walking on the road with a calf when near Shamaspur village some unidentified vehicle hit them from the rear side. While Vicky died on the spot Baljit was taken to the local government hospital from where he was referred to the Ropar civil hospital, said the police. TNS

Trader arrested with duplicate cosmetics

Kharar: The Kharar sadar police have arrested a shopkeeper, Jaspal Singh, following the recovery of duplicate cosmetics from his shop and have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Copyright Act against him. SHO Bhagwant Singh said they had received a complaint regarding this from Manpreet Kaur, an investigating officer of a cosmetics company, Emami Limited. The complainant told the police that the  trader was selling duplicate cream and oil in the name of their company.

The police recovered 11 pieces of duplicate hair oil and 19 of cream. OC

Rs 65,000 stolen from car in Mohali

Mohali: In a theft, a Kharar-based businessman lost Rs 65,000 in Sector 70, Mohali. As per information, Harjeet Singh (41) had visited a doctor in Sector 70 for the check-up of his 18-month-old son. His wife and other son were also accompanying him. When the family returned after about an hour, they noticed that the rear windowpane of their Maruti Swift car was shattered. On checking, they found that a bag, containing Rs 65,000 in cash, and house keys was missing. They reported the matter to the police, who have registered a case.OC
