Six police personnel, including a Home Guards volunteer, who acted promptly and rescued 29-year-old Varnika Kundu, daughter of an IAS officer, while she was being stalked, will be awarded commendation certificates by the Administrator on Independence Day. The two accused in the case were nabbed by the police at the Housing Board light point.
Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar (22), were held on the night intervening August 4 and 5 for trying to block Varnika’s way with their SUV while she was heading home. The accused also chased her. In the meantime, the victim informed the PCR following which the accused were nabbed by the police.
They were later released on bail since the offence they were booked for was bailable. They were re-arrested on August 9 after an attempt to abduction was added to the FIR.
Those who will be awarded are SI Vijay Kumar, duty officer at PCR; ASI Ishwar Singh, assistant duty officer at PCR; Head Constable Devinder Singh, wireless dispatcher; Constable Ajay, who received the call, and Head Constable Satish Kumar and volunteer Baisakhi, who nabbed the accused.
