I-Day: Red alert at airport

MOHALI: A red alert has been sounded at the Chandigarh International Airport ahead of the Independence Day. The authorities say security in and around the airport is more stringent than ever in view of terrorist infiltration bids and tension along the border.

Mohali, August 11

A red alert has been sounded at the Chandigarh International Airport ahead of the Independence Day. The authorities say security in and around the airport is more stringent than ever in view of terrorist infiltration bids and tension along the border. “Extra men have been deployed to look after the premises and the city side of the facility. Arrangements will be in place till August 15 and may be extended by a few more days,” an airport official said. With concerns being raised about passengers clicking photographs and ‘selfies’ in the airside, the authorities are taking special care to tackle the issue. “This is a sensitive airport. Hence, photography is not allowed, mainly on the airside of the facility.  Instructions have been sent to personnel to stay more alert on this front too,” another official said. — TNS
