The Patiala police and the Organised Crime Control Unit of the Intelligence Wing have arrested seven members of an interstate gang of robbers involved in several cases of murder and snatching cases.
Sukhchain Singh Gill, DIG Patiala (Range), said a police team headed by the Crime Investigating Agency (II) In-charge, Bikramjit Brar, had arrested the gang members from near Cheeka road and had recovered five pistols, cartridges and a snatched swift car with Rs 3 lakh.
He said a case pertaining to the Arms Act and various other Sections had been registered against them at the Sadar police station, Patiala.
The arrested gang members have been identified as Manvir Singh, Sanjeev Kumar and Amanjit Singh, all residents of Hoshiarpur; Mandeep Singh Manna from Noormahal, Yadvinder Singh Yadu from Payal, Jograj Singh from Jalandhar and Mukul Dev of Jalandhar.
Later, Bikramjit Brar said Manvir had 17 pending cases against him and was a proclaimed offender in 12 of them, while Amanjit Singh had 16 cases against him and was wanted in a dozen of them. Sanjeev has 11 cases while Jograj has seven cases registered against them. Mukul Dev is a student of a private university in Jalandhar.
The gang had allegedly murdered a woman at Kohja village in March 2017 and had snatched over five vehicles in Punjab and other states.
“The gang had also looted Rs 6.15 lakh from a money exchanger in Jalandhar. The weapons recovered and earlier used by these gang members point to the involvement of some weapon dealers in Uttar Pradesh,” said Brar.
