Mayor Davesh Moudgil and a delegation of nominated councillors met UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, requesting him to intervene in releasing sufficient funds to the Municipal Corporation (MC) to enable it to carry on its development projects more effectively.

The Mayor also requested Badnore to get the notification of ward committees as well as other sub-committees issued.

He said he had sent his recommendations to the Chandigarh Administration long time ago, but the notification had not been issued yet.

Moudgil also informed the UT Administrator that he wants to involve the nominated councillors and get the benefit of their vast experience in the working of the Municipal Corporation and for that purpose, he wants three nominated councillors to be the chairpersons of the three sub-committees out of the 14.

He said as per the legal opinion sought by the corporation from Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India, the nominated councillors were eligible to become the chairperson and vice- chairperson of the sub-committees.

The Mayor also requested the Administrator to ask the UT Administration to release the budget share of 17.5 per cent of the Municipal Corporation in the total revenue of the UT as per the recommendations of the Third Delhi Finance Commission, which has now been increased to 30 per cent by the same commission in its fourth report.
