Jr Tennis Nationals: Rathi crashes out

CHANDIGARH:Second seed Aditya Rathi of Haryana made an early exit from the 11th Ramesh Desai Memorial Junior Tennis Nationals for U-12 boys and girls after he went down to Karnataka’s Skanda Rao in straight sets in the quarterfinals at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) courts in Mumbai today.

Second seed Aditya Rathi of Haryana made an early exit from the 11th Ramesh Desai Memorial Junior Tennis Nationals for U-12 boys and girls after he went down to Karnataka’s Skanda Rao in straight sets in the quarterfinals at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) courts in Mumbai today.

Rathi lost 2-6 2-6 to bow out of the championship. 

Rao, meanwhile, joined state-mate and top seed Aayush Bhat, 5th seed Arunava Majumdar of Bengal and local boy Eapen Joshua in the last-four stage.

In the girls’ singles, top seed Siddhi Khandelwal of Gujarat registered a comfortable 6-1 6-2 win over Telangana’s Abhaya Vemuri.

She will now face Maharashtra’s Sonal Patil, who stunned 9th seed Madhurima Sawant 6-3 4-6 6-2.

In an all-Tamil Nadu encounter, Kundana Bandaru outplayed Ananya SR 6-1 6-2 to set up a clash with second seed Pari Singh of Maharashtra. 

Pari recorded a 6-3 6-3 win over state rival Saina Deshpande.
