Judicial remand for rape accused

CHANDIGARH:A 29-year-old man accused of raping an IT professional was today produced in a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Chandigarh, May 17 

A 29-year-old man accused of raping an IT professional was today produced in a court, which remanded him in judicial custody. 

The 27-year-old victim, who had arrived from Jaipur and was staying at Hotel Taj in Sector 17, had alleged that the accused, Sunny Kumar, a contractual employee of Hotel Taj who was working in the food and beverages department, allegedly raped her at his rented accommodation in Sector 22. 

The police said the victim and the accused had gone to the latter’s house to celebrate the victim’s birthday, where the victim was allegedly raped.

The accused pleaded innocence in the court.

Sources said the victim called the accused on his mobile phone a few times after reaching the hotel. However, he did not take the calls after which she called the police and told them about the incident.
