Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu on Wednesday made a surprise visit to the grain market here and reviewed the ongoing purchase of wheat. He also heard the problems faced by farmers.
While talking to mediapersons, he said there were complaints of non-payment of purchased wheat to commission agents and non-lifting of stock from the grain market.
He said payments have begun to be made by government agencies. Lifting of stock was still an issue as only less than 50 per cent stock purchased (1.18 lakh tonne) has been lifted so for.
He pulled up the officials, including lifting contractor, who promised to clear backlog within two days. He also spoke to the Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, about this and she has assured intervention.
