Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kirron Kher flagged off two vehicles for addressing the needs of children in vulnerable conditions and four Annapurna vans at Indian Red Cross Society, UT branch, here today.

The District Child Protection Society, under the aegis of the Deputy Magistrate/Collector, purchased vehicles for children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law.

The vehicles will be used for various cases such as POCSO cases, drives against child labour, child beggar, inspections/visits in child care institutions and other related works in Chandigarh.

According to a press statement, a Rs 14 lakh have been released by Kher under the MPLAD scheme for the purchase of two vehicles for the District Child Protection Society. A sum of Rs 16, 86,540 has been released by Kher for the purchase of four vehicles for the Annapurna Akhayapatra Yojana.

The Red Cross Society initiated the project ‘Annapurna Akshyapatra’ to give affordable, hygienic and nutritious diet to the labourers, industrial workers and the needy in the city with support of the Chandigarh Administration and different philanthropists. This venture was launched in January this year. The food packet consists six Chapatis, sabzi and achaar for just Rs 10.
