Lok Adalat disposes of 4,284 cases

CHANDIGARH: In all, 4,284 cases were disposed of by permanent Lok Adalat held at the Chandigarh District Courts today. Thirteen Benches, headed by serving Judicial Officers, were constituted for the same.

In all, 4,284 cases were disposed of by permanent Lok Adalat held at the Chandigarh District Courts today.

Thirteen Benches, headed by serving Judicial Officers, were constituted for the same. Criminal compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of the NI Act, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, arbitration matters, other civil cases, Municipal matters and traffic challans were taken up.

In all, 23 criminal compoundable cases, involving an amount of Rs 78,800; 654 cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act involving an amount of Rs 9.22 crore; three bank recovery cases involving Rs 12 lakh; and 10 motor accident claim cases involving an amount of Rs 39 lakh were settled.

Also, 98 cases of labour disputes involving a settlement amount of Rs 5.89 lakh, 14 matrimonial/family disputes, 88 civil suits and rent cases involving Rs 282 crore, 102 executions involving an amount of Rs 9.24 crore, and 2,779 traffic challans were disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs 3.62 lakh.

In addition to this, 12 pre-litigation cases involving Rs 5.65 lakh were also settled. Lok Adalat held by the office of Assistant Labour Commissioner, Chandigarh, settled 68 cases involving an amount of Rs 6.59 lakh.

Elaborating the importance of Lok Adalats and how it could help solve pending cases, Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, DLSA said: “Lok Adalats play an important role to advance, reinforce and fortify equal access to justice”. He said: “The decision by the Lok Adalat is binding on the parties and it has the status of a decree of a Civil Court. Being non-appealable, it helps to curb delay.”

In all, 210 persons who had not responded to the Traffic Violation Information Slip (TVIS) notices; captured violating traffic rules in CCTV cameras, videos, photographs and video-recordings sent by citizens under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, appeared before the court and paid fines for various traffic violations.


Cases involving Rs 98 lakh solved in P'kula 

Of 1,657 cases, 341 were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat in Panchkula on Saturday. The settlement amount in these cases was Rs 98.26 lakh, informed CJM-cum-DLSA Secretary Nidhi Bansal. Criminal compoundable matters, including cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, and traffic challans, matrimonial disputes, civil rent cases such as rent, injunction suits, were taken up in the Lok Adalat. 16 Benches in Mohali

Mohali: As many as 1,545 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat here on Saturday. Archana Puri, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, held a meeting of Judges, bankers, insurance company, Labour Department, Police officials, Water and Electricity Department, Bar Association President of Mohali, Kharar, Dera Bassi, DPRO, and sensitised them about National Lok Adalat. In all, 16 benches were constituted and the CJM-cum- DLSA Secretary Monika Lamba said: "1,545 cases were disposed of and Rs 33.50 crore were awarded." TNS


DLSA camp

Mohali: District Legal Services Authority organised a camp at Government Senior Secondary School in Phase 3-B1 here on Friday to provide assistance to differently-abled students. The initiative was to apprise the beneficiaries of availing themselves of various government schemes. Under the initiative, a team of paralegal volunteers and officials from the District Social Security Office assisted the students to fill forms of pension scheme, disability certificate, bus passes and other Centre-sponsored schemes.
