Man arrested for abducting 17-year-old girl

The Dera Bassi police have arrested a 30-year-old resident of Samgoli village for abducting a 17-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her.

The accused has been identified as Jagtar Singh, who lived in the same locality.

The victim, along with her family members, went to the police station on Tuesday night and lodged her complaint against the accused, following which an FIR was registered. Later, the police arrested the accused.

Investigating Officer Gursimranveer Singh, Sub-Inspector posted at Dera Bassi, said the 17-year-old girl in her complaint had alleged that on the night of December 1, the accused, Jagtar Singh, had come to her house and made her smell some intoxicant and drove her away.

The victim further stated that when she regained her conscious after three days, she found herself in the room where the accused told the victim that he wanted to marry her.

The victim refused his proposal stating she is a minor and moreover she would not go against her family members.

The victim in her complaint had denied any charges of rape or physical assault by the accused, who held her captive for three days, said the IO.

She said the accused dropped her near Anaj Mandi at Samgoli village after three days. After reaching the home, the victim narrated the entire incident to her family members who approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Going with the statement of the girl, the police lodged an FIR and later arrested him.
